HOW WE'RE DOING OUR PART TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY
When setting up Camera Crate it was important that its ethics reflected our values.
Initially we decided we wanted to focus on supporting local community filmmaking organisations which had supported us for so many years. Although we had supported several with practical support for several years (and continue to do so), it was important that we started to give financial support as well to ensure that emerging filmmakers continued to receive support, advice and guidance and to foster a spirit of community.
As Camera Crate has continued to grow and evolve we’ve looked to expand our vision. Below is some of the community outreach work we’re doing and have done.
DVMISSION 2023
We’re proud to sponsor DV:Mission, the Portsmouth based 48 hour film challenge now in it’s 18th year! It is a film festival with a difference in that all the films screened at the gala premier and awards ceremony were made in the preceding 48 hours based on a set of ‘obstructions’.
City Eye Film Network
As part of our goal to support emerging local filmmakers, Camera Crate has sponsored City Eye’s monthly Film Network. Every month local creatives and industry professionals meet for informal networking; the chance to meet and discuss your projects, careers and development, and to find out what resources and support there is for you – at City Eye and other agencies, and from each other.
Additionally, each month they invite a different guest speaker to share their knowledge and experience and join in the conversation.
Susan Beckett, Managing Director of City Eye said:
“We’re grateful to acknowledge the support of Camera Crate who are helping us to ensure that the Film Network is accessible to all.”

Making Waves Film Festival 2022
In 2022 Camera Crate was honoured to sponsor Making Waves Film Festival launch gala which included a screening of Ali & Ava and a live Q&A from composer Harry Escott, winner of Best Music British Independent Film Awards 2021.
Making Waves Film Festival is Portsmouth’s annual film festival and short film competition celebrating innovative and bold filmmaking that inspires audiences.
Now running up to our 10th edition in 2022, we aim to continue developing local creative talent and new filmmakers whilst building national and international links as we work towards our establishing Making Waves as the Solent region’s premiere film festival.
Making Waves works in partnership with BFI NETWORK & BF Film Hub South West, EUROSCRIPT, FILM EXPO SOUTH, The Wedgewood Rooms, and Portsmouth Guildhall.
Festival Organiser Roy Hanney said:
“An organisation such as MWFF is staffed entirely by volunteers so sponsorship is crucial if we want to keep running the film festival. Camera Crate sponsoring our launch party might seem like a small thing but it enables us to run a networking event which aims to promote the festival to local stakeholders and strategic decision makers. We want to make the festival a catalyst for creative industries growth in the city so we need to keep driving the conversation upward. A launch event is the perfect opportunity to do this.”

We're a carbon negative company!
In 2021 we made a commitment to become a carbon-negative company – an organisation which has a positive net impact on the environment. We achieve this through our continual work to reduce our emissions and through offsetting the remaining emissions (twice!).
